ONE of America’s most prominent hedge funds is being probed over whether it gave preferential treatment to its founder and clients.
The Securities and Exchange Commission and US Attorney’s office in Manhattan are looking into whether Harbinger Capital Partners misled investors by failing to disclose in a timely fashion a $US113 million personal loan it extended to founder Philip Falcone from the firm’s funds, according to people familiar with the matter.

My fellow personal finance blogger 2million did an interesting exercise to tabulate all stock dividend income he received in 2007. ProFunds is launching two new mutual funds to track the U.S. dollar. Since this is ProFunds, one of the funds will go long (you hope the dollar strengthens) and the other will go short (you hope the dollar weakens). unlike most of fund families, ProFunds place no limits on when and how many times you sell the fund. This is definitely geared towards a trader.

What was I thinking when I bought 1000 shares of Fannie Mae at $1.76 and then in order to minimize my losses I bought another 2,000 shares at $0.93. well, I was tempted by the desire to turn a profit on Fannie Mae because I have taken advantage of its volatility before.
