New Jersey’s pension fund has committed up to $1.8 billion to funds managed by the Blackstone Group, a big win for the money-management giant and the latest signal that the fund-raising climate, at least for the largest private equity firms, is on the upswing.
The New Jersey Division of Investment disclosed the commitment during a meeting on Thursday in Trenton. The pension fund, which has about $66 billion in assets, is considered a pioneer in investment in so-called alternative assets like private equity, hedge funds and real estate.
