Haven’t you become a member of the large family of mutual fund investors yet? If you keep waiting you may never be able to feel the positive effects mutual funds have on your account. however, you are not the only one who has not managed to overcome some of the basic mental barriers that come in your way toward mutual fund investing.
First of all you may think that you don’t have enough money to invest in a …

Flat out: with just the information, you’ve provided here. I’d suggest either an IUL or VUL for you (indexed universal life or variable universal life) product and not a whole life one. why? better interest rates over time and flexibility of premium. also, the potential pull outs later could be much greater than anything you’d see in a whole life. Of course, if I were actually sitting with you, those might not be the better options just because of other things; cash flow; your plan for your future; etc., but …

(This is the fourth in my series of Model Portfolio Comparisons.)
I hope people aren’t getting overwhelmed by all of these portfolios. Remember, the law of diminishing returns applies to investment complexity as well. After a while, adding more asset classes and mutual funds doesn’t get you that much more expected return. if you’re getting bored, try some of the earlier portfolios and tune out the rest. Personally, I don’t mind having 8 funds or so, and I’ve found that after the initial setup the maintenance is pretty minimal.

Jonathan cattana asks: what makes a good financial advisor.
First we must examine what a financial advisor is. here is a reference from wikipedia:

Mumbai: Your mutual fund manager is not worth the salary he is being paid. Or so a study by ratings and research firm Standard & Poor’s and Crisil appears to suggest.
Going by the Indices Versus Active Funds Scorecard launched by S&P and Crisil on Thursday, 70% of the large-cap equity mutual funds (essentially funds which invest in large-cap stocks) underperformed the 50-share Nifty Index over the 5-year period to December 2009.
A mutual fund scheme is deemed to have done well if it beats the Nifty returns. this is one way …

You don’t receive guaranteed benefits on a 401K account. the amount you get during retirement depends on how much you had saved, how well you had invested, and how much you had contributed. Hence, having a professional 401k investment advice is quite significant.
We are, however, always confused when it comes to contributing toward our 401k account. To avoid this confusion, you need to determine the sum of money you will need every year to meet your expenses when you retire. You will have a clear idea about your goals and …

ALL BUSINESS: Be tough with your financial adviser
NEW YORK — Your financial adviser might be acting like a doctor who prescribes certain medicine only because he’s on a drug company’s payroll and then neglects to tell you about it.
Not all brokers who sell stocks, bonds, annuities and other investments are required to put their clients’ interests first. They can steer you into mutual funds or college savings plans that pad their firms’ profits or their own commissions, and you might never know.
Congress has a chance to fix this conflicted system …

Finding decent yields when many interest rates are near zero is tough. That’s especially the case with people who are retired or nearing retirement. Stocks are doing well these days and lots of money has flowed into bond mutual funds as well. But older investors are especially vulnerable to another hit on their portfolios. Many want to begin locking in their recovery gains from the market’s recent surge, and make the transition from investment growth to investment preservation. to help in this process, U.S. News spoke with several investment advisers.
